1 year old killed in crash Monday on I-25

A 19 month old died Monday when a woman made an “improper pass” on I-25, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Crash investigators say 23-year-old Jasmine Alderete of Colorado Springs was headed north on I-25 when she used the right lane to pass an SUV, but collided with it when moving back into the left lane.

The collision sent her Subaru into the opposite lanes of traffic where it struck a pickup.

Two people in the pickup suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Troopers say the child was properly restrained in a car seat, but died at the scene injuries sustained in the crash.

Alderete suffered serious injuries herself.

A CSP spokesperson couldn’t specify the woman’s relationship to the child, and also didn’t know if she would face citations or criminal charges after her release from the hospital.

The crash happened around 3:30pm just south of the S. Academy exit and shut down parts of I-25 for roughly four hours, leading to major traffic delays.
