Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Windy At Times – 3/9/19

Today: We’ll start the day off mostly sunny and windy at times with occasional gusts over 40 mph this morning. The wind might gradually decrease during the afternoon and some clouds may begin drifting over the mountains late. Temperatures today won’t be as warm as yesterday but we still expect to reach the upper 40s and 50s for many areas in eastern Colorado with a few spots along and south of the Arkansas River possibly getting close to 60. We expect high temperatures mainly in the 40s over the mountains.

Tonight: Decreasing wind but increasing clouds with areas of low cloud cover, patchy fog and/or freezing fog and possibly some flurries developing over low lying areas near and east of the mountains late. We expect the air to cool into the 20s over the plains with teens over the mountains by morning.

Sunday: The morning could start out cloudy and/or foggy with some flurries over low lying areas near the mountains, but we do expect any low clouds to break up through the day. All areas will be breezy and colder during the afternoon with high temperatures in the 40s for the plains, mainly 30s over the mountains.

Extended: Expect increasing clouds and a chilly breeze Monday with scattered rain and snow showers developing during the afternoon. Stronger showers may produce some graupel/snow pellets, and over the mountains and higher terrain along I-25 bursts of wet snow could briefly reduce visibility and whiten roadways. Widespread accumulating snow doesn’t look real likely on Monday but a few spots could receive a quick inch or 2″ on the cooler surfaces. Heavier snow could fall over the high country, particularly over the southern half of the state. Rain and snow showers should end for most areas Monday night but some low clouds and/or fog may develop over the plains and a few showers will remain possible over far southern and eastern areas. Tuesday looks windy, warmer and dry along the I-25 corridor but scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible over the far southern and eastern areas. High temperatures Tuesday afternoon should reach the 50s and 60s for the plains with 40s over the mountains.

A strong storm will move over the region on Wednesday bringing wind and colder air to the state. Areas of rain and snow are possible with snow most likely on the higher terrain along and west of I-25, but right now it is difficult to know if the storm will intensify quickly enough to bring an extended period of widespread rain and snow to our area, a brief period of localized heavy precipitation to some of us, or just scattered showers and wind. We’ll be tracking this system closely over the next several days but for now expect blustery conditions for many areas on Wednesday. Chilly air will settle in through the end of the week with chances for periods of snow mainly along and west of I-25. The weekend looks a bit warmer.
