Extreme heat hits the beginning of the work week

Today: Sunday brought very hot temperatures with everyone in eastern Colorado in the 90s. Winds are less than 20 mph across Pueblo and Custer Counties, where the Aspen Acres Fire is. The light winds that are flowing are moving the smoke and haze to the southwest, primarily affecting Salida, Walsenburg, and everyone in between. The air quality index could drop below moderate for areas close to the fire perimeters. Dry conditions continue east of I-25 with small showers lingering across the high country until 9 pm.

Tomorrow: The ridge of high pressure builds into its most prominent form right over Colorado, bringing the hottest temperatures of the week. Colorado Springs could get up to 98 degrees, with Pueblo looking at 102. Showers and thunderstorms across the high country begin around 3 pm and wrap up by 10 pm. The eastern region stays completely dry. The middle of the workweek appears to bring a better chance to get moisture out east.
