Man injures Colorado Springs police officer after being taken into custody

Police were called to the intersection of E. Woodmen Rd. and Olga Willson Way Monday afternoon for reports of a traffic crash.

Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Alexander Greenly was driving under the influence and left the scene of the crash. Officers located Greenly and took him into custody for careless driving and operating a vehicle while under the influence.

Greenly agreed to a chemical test of his blood and was transported to the hospital. While at the hospital, he got physical with officers. During the altercation, an officer sustained a leg injury which prevented the officer from returning to duty.

In addition to the traffic offenses, Greenly was charged with assault and attempted assault on a peace officer.
