Icy and snow packed roads made for a dangerous morning commute

Traffic was running slow this morning as morning commuters dealt with dangerous driving conditions.

“The roads are packed ice, it’s not horrible but stay off the back roads, and don’t go out if you don’t need to,” said one driver.

Due to the snow packed roads cars struggled to gain traction and we counted a number of slide-offs.

Frank Lillig said, “the main thing is, to take your time and that’s pretty much it.”

And it wasn’t just the roads that snow impacted. On a typical Monday, the parking spaces outside of the El Paso County Court House are full, but due to the weather, the court was on a two-hour delay.

Along with the court, a number of schools were closed today and non-essential city employees also had a two-hour delay.

Darlene Garcia, a teacher at District 11 said, “Terribly delighted that D11 was smart enough to call it early and keep our kids and keep our teachers safe.”

So whether it was Downtown Colorado Springs, or North Colorado Springs, no where was safe when it came to the roads on this morning commute.
