Snow accumulation increases Saturday in Teller County

March came in like a lion on Saturday afternoon as the latest winter storm moved through Teller County.

Wind-driven snow began at mid-afternoon with a sandy, grainy texture, sounding more like sleet as it bounced off vehicles and blew sideways.

By 5 p.m., however, the wind lessened and heavier snow fell, quickly depositing 1 to 2 inches. Estimates are that 4 to 6 inches had fallen by late Saturday night.

U.S. 24 from Woodland Park to Divide was snow packed in some areas but traffic flowed smoothly.

“We expect to get around 6 inches,” said driver Robert Mericole. “It takes a foot or more to bother us. But we’re not getting the heavy snow amounts we used to.”

“I’m just glad to see us getting it,” said driver Jeff Rogers. “If we get it now, we won’t have to worry about fire danger this spring.”

No major crashes or other mishaps were reported.
