Argument leads to fatal shooting at McDonald’s near Midtown Shopping Center
Pueblo police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Wednesday just outside of a McDonald’s near the Midtown Shopping Center.
Police tell KRDO that one person was shot after a “verbal altercation” between people in two vehicles in the McDonald’s parking lot.
The shooting happened at about 1 p.m. near 6th Street and Midtown Circle Drive. ( MAP ) Multiple shots were fired, and the victim was taken to the hospital but later died.
Thursday, the victim was identified as 29-year-old Travis Elifritz.
Investigators say they’re looking for a suspect in a gold Expedition that drove down 6th Street and caused a crash. Multiple people fled from that crash, but police found the getaway vehicle near Francisco Street and W. 18th Street.
One woman was detained as a potential witness but isn’t being cooperative, police said.
It’s not clear if the people in the vehicles knew each other beforehand or if this is a gang-related shooting. Elifritz has a previous criminal conviction connected to a drive-by shooting that happened in 2017. According to an arrest affidavit, the victim in that case alleged that Elifritz was a gang member.
Officers are looking through security footage for more clues.
We have a crew at the scene, and we’re working to get more information. Check back for updates.
