Air Force Academy Planetarium to reopen Saturday after 15 years
Do you ever get caught staring at the stars? Well, the Air Force Academy is reopening something that could be perfect for you.
“Well people are really excited because the planetarium at the Air Force Academy is reopening March the 2nd, this Saturday, it’s been closed for 15 years,” said Judy Cara, Project Manager.
But why did it close originally?
Cara said, “It was closed in 2004 because we used to teach celestial navigation to the cadets at the Academy and things have changed, technology has changed and there was no longer a need to teach them celestial navigation.”
Now, according to Cara, the newly renovated planetarium will feature a list of new shows.
“We are not just going to show astronomy shows, there will be things like fighter pilots, humpback whales,” Cara said. The Academy also told us they’ll bring in laser rock ‘n’ roll shows.
And you will be able to enjoy the shows on state-of-the-art technology.
Cara said, “We have state of the art sound, we have the most comfortable seats that recline so you can see the amazing show, we have absolutely amazing projectors.”
The grand opening will take place 3 to 4 p.m. this Saturday, followed by an open house from 4 to 5 p.m. The best part about all of this, is that the tickets are free. However, you will need to call and make a reservation in advance by calling 719-333-4496
