Man says staying at Holiday Inn is cheaper than nursing home

A man from Texas says he’d save more than $100 a day in retirement by staying at a Holiday Inn rather than going to a nursing home — but thousands of people are sharing the idea, so it’s probably about to be ruined.

Terry Robison of Spring, Texas, compared what he says is the average cost for nursing home care to the cost of staying at a Holiday Inn. Instead of paying $188 a day for a nursing home, he’d rather use longterm-stay and senior discounts to pay just $59.23 per night.

He says Holiday Inn offers free breakfast, cleaning, and free amenities, plus there’s no concern about maintenance or security. He says you can use the extra $128 a day for whatever you want, which could stack up pretty quick.

Now, obviously, Holiday Inn isn’t going to have medical staff at the ready, but maybe that’s an added benefit for some people who are considering stealing Robison’s idea. His original post has been shared more than 90,000 times.

Robison also says if you get bored, you can bounce around between different Holiday Inns and become a jet-setter in retirement. (Something tells us if you’re weighing a nursing home as an option, you’re probably not going to be flying around frequently.)

Good luck getting a reservation for that price after all of the publicity his idea has received, though.
