Colorado Springs club shooting suspect arrested in Oregon

The man wanted after an alleged shooting and assault in a Colorado Springs strip club early Friday morning was arrested in Oregon after shooting another person and being chased by police.

Our ABC partners at KDRV confirmed that Matthew Fanelli was taken into custody early Sunday in in southern Oregon.

Fanelli was wanted after reportedly shooting inside the Deja Vu Showgirls club because he was upset. No one was injured by the gunfire, but he allegedly assaulted a female employee, who then ran out of the building.

Oregon State Police say they responded to a carjacking call at a restaurant in Roseburg, which is about 70 miles south of Eugene. Fanelli was reportedly with another man, Jose Lopez-Jovel, and when they couldn’t steal the vehicle, Fanelli left in their original car.

Police found Fanelli driving but he fled and went south on Interstate 5. While driving, police say he started shooting and hit several vehicles, including an OSP patrol car and a passenger vehicle with a child inside.

They kept going south before Fanelli lost them on I-5. He allegedly tried to carjack another couple in Josephine County, according to OSP, and he ended up shooting the man and assaulting the woman. The victim was taken to the hospital with critical injuries, according to KDRV.

Police finally caught a break when Fanelli’s car broke down, and he was taken into custody. Fanelli was booked into the Josephine County Jail and is facing multiple charges in Oregon and Colorado.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man who fired shots inside a club in Colorado Springs early Friday morning.

Deputies were dispatched to the Deja Vu Showgirls club early Friday morning for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies learned that 30-year-old Matthew Anthony Fanelli became upset when he was asked to leave and began shooting at the manager and bouncers. No one was hurt in the incident.

Deputies say Fanelli was accompanied by a female employee. Deputies say she was physically assaulted inside Deja Vu and ran out of the building naked.

At this time, Cynthia Sena is considered a victim and an accomplice.

Authorities say Matthew is driving a gold Lexus sedan with New Mexico plates AHR-J63. Deputies have reason to believe he may traveling towards New York or hiding in a local Colorado Springs hotel.

Matthew is considered armed and dangerous and is wanted out of New Mexico.

Sena is said to be driving a silver Nissan also bearing a New Mexico license plate.

If you see the cars, do not approach the occupants as they’re considered armed and dangerous. You’re asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 719-390-5555.

Editor’s note: The original version of this story included the identities of two people who the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said were connected to the case. One of those people reached out to KRDO and said he was innocent — we asked the sheriff’s office if this was true and a representative said the office stood by its original story. On Sunday, the EPCSO finally clarified that the individual was not an accomplice. A representative said she made contact with that person directly.
