Friends say man hit by car in Colorado Springs battled suicidal thoughts

Wednesday night, a Colorado Springs police officer found Mitchal Holloway lying near the intersection of Cimino Drive and Colorado Avenue.

Holloway was struck by a car then taken to the hospital, where he died of his injuries.

A 21-year-old woman is facing charges of vehicular homicide and driving under the influence, but now police are looking into social media posts made by Holloway the day he was hit by a car.

Those posts are centered around his struggle with depression and possible suicide attempts.

Just hours before he died, a Facebook post under Holloway’s name said “I legit feel like I’m suicidal for real … I feel the urge to step in front of a moving car.”

Holloway is now remembered by friends, including Crystina Page.

“He had so many dreams and aspirations. He had so many things he wanted to do with his life,” Page said.

It’s these same posts catching investigator’s attention that caught hers Wednesday night.

“When he posts about jumping in front of a moving vehicle Wednesday night, I commented saying ‘Isn’t that how we met?’ With a winky face,'” she said.

Page tells us nearly a year ago, she found Holloway lying in the middle of the street.

“He said that he was suicidal and he said he was hoping someone would hit him with a car,” she said.

Fast forward to Wednesday night after the posts on social media. Page says she was supposed to meet Holloway downtown, but didn’t get to him on time.

“It took me too long to get there and his last message to me was that he was going to go meet God in the same way that he met me so that I would know that he was thinking about me,” she said.

She shares this was his third time attempting to get hit by a car and says if Destany Cardenas hadn’t admitted to hitting him, she believes he would have tried it again.

Colorado Springs Police say had Cardenas been driving sober, she may not face vehicular homicide or DUI charges.
