Wind Alert & High Fire Danger – 2/13/19

TODAY: We start the day out with quiet weather for Southern Colorado before things take a downhill turn this afternoon. A wind alert is out today along with Red Flag Warnings. Those are in place for all of Southern and Southeast Colorado from noon untl 6PM. The fire danger will be at very high to critical levels here, as winds gust between 40 and 60 mph. Please report smoke and fire if you see it. High winds will be more of a concern over the southern mountains and in the La Veta Valley. High wind warnings are out for areas there from noon until 11PM. Gusts will be 60+ mph over lower elevations, with gusts exceeding 75 mph in the mountains. Highs today warm into the 50s and 60s under a partly cloudy sky.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy and windy. Lows stay fairly mild because of the wind and should only cool to the 30s and 40s.

EXTENDED: Thursday is another wind alert day for southern Colorado. Gusts will be topping off between 30-40 mph and could be as high as 50 mph in areas. Clouds will be on the increase and highs will warm to the 50s and 60s again. Snow will be ongoing over the southern mountains for much of the day, before it pushes in to the I-25 coordor for Friday morning. Right now accumulation looks very minor. Another round of minor snow is possible Friday into Saturday morning. Then we will see more significant snow by Monday and Tuesday. We will keep you updated!
