Colorado Springs health service offers at home care for high flu activity

Making a trip to the doctor’s office isn’t always easy, especially when you’re suffering from the flu. Now there’s an at-home treatment alternative for those living in Colorado Springs.

DispatchHealth sends teams across the city to help get you the tests and treatments you need.

All you need is a cell phone. From there, go on the App or the website to request a team to come to your door. It’s something that can come in handy as those flu numbers continue to rise right here in Colorado.

The newest numbers from state health officials show we’re not getting any better when it comes to the flu. In fact, Colorado has been one of the worst states for the virus this year with 1,851 people hospitalized this flu season.

That means hospitals are filling up as they treat people for the virus.

Luckily, there is no longer a need to wait. Nurse Practitioner Kathryn Hachuela has already seen several patients Tuesday. She and her partner, Ellen Davis, an EMT, carry everything they need with them from door-to-door.

Their patients say if it weren’t for the visit, they would have had to go to urgent care which would have taken a lot longer than just a visit to the doctor.

Conveniently, the cost for at home care is just the same as a trip to the doctor. And now being sick isn’t as hard for patients to manage.

The CDC reports February is the peak month for the flu season.

In fact, District 20 sent out a letter telling parents to expect an increase in influenza cases over the next 4 to 6 weeks.

When we asked for those numbers, we got an automated response saying the person who could provide them was out of the office with the flu. It’s a clear example of the virus’s impact on the district.

Though, we’ll continue working on getting those numbers.
