Marty’s Sunday Morning Forecast – Less Cloud Cover – 2/10/19

Today: There may be some areas of low clouds cover and patchy fog early this morning over low lying areas in eastern Colorado this morning as a weak cold front slides over the plains, mainly along and north of the Arkansas River. Most of the day will be mostly sunny for everyone else. We expect breezy conditions to develop this afternoon but the wind shouldn’t be too strong today with gusts running between 20 and 30 mph at times in spots. Expect high temperatures in the 40s to near 50 for the plains, mainly 30s to lower 40s for our local mountain areas.

Tonight: Patchy low clouds may redevelop over low lying areas east of the I-25 corridor for a few hours tonight. The wind will begin to pick up over and near the mountains late. Over the high country snow should break out again over the high country with slick travel likely at times by late tonight. We expect the air will cool into the teens and 20s across the area by morning.

Extended: Any low clouds or fog over the plains will break up pretty quickly on Monday as the wind increases across the area. Monday looks to be a blustery, colder day with snow continuing to fall at times over mostly the high country, but there could be enough instability for spotty, brief snow showers to develop over and near our local mountain areas as well. We do not expect significant snowfall locally on Monday. Wind gusts over 40 mph are likely for many areas on Monday which will make for uncomfortable conditions outdoors. Tuesday shouldn’t be as windy and lower elevations should stay dry through most of Wednesday with the air gradually warming. Another system will bring more snow to the high country and wind to the plains by Wednesday night. We should expect to get very windy Wednesday night into Thursday as the next cold front approaches the area. Thursday may start quite warm for much of eastern Colorado, but it appears likely we should expect to turn SHARPLY colder at some time during the day as the cold front arrives. Right now it doesn’t appear chances for snow over the plains are all that great with the storm later in the week, but we’ll need to track Thursday into Thursday night closely for a chance for at least a brief burst of snow for some of us. Friday should be dry and cool area wide.
