Men arrested after string of robberies in Colorado Springs, accused of baiting victims

Colorado Springs police arrested two men who were involved in a string of robberies that happened in east Colorado Springs between Dec. 2018 and Jan. 2019.

Robert Curtis Jones Jr., 24, and 19-year-old Melchezedek Gordon were arrested on Jan. 29 for a robbery that happened at 3635 Michigan Ave.

Two male victims said they were invited to the Michigan Manor Apartments by a woman who they met on Tinder. When they arrived, Gordon and Jones robbed them at gunpoint – taking their cell phones and wallets and then carjacking their truck.

Lt. Howard Black with the Colorado Springs Police Department said, “this is a very good example of the risk you can put yourself in.”

After further investigation, police discovered Gordon and Jones had baited multiple victims into meeting a female at a prearranged location. Five cases occurred at the Michigan Manor Apartments, though neither suspect lived there.

Lt. Black says, “crimes happen so quickly. If you’re dealing with someone that anonymous, pay attention to that.”

Ten criminal investigations have been linked to Jones and Gordon. Both men have been charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, aggravated robbery and robbery.

Police have charged Gordon and Jones with the following cases:
