Man arrested after allegedly assaulting woman who gave him a ride

Colorado Springs police are investigating after a man allegedly attacked a woman who gave him a ride and then hit a medic who tried to intervene Thursday morning.

According to police, 39-year-old Clarence Pate flagged down a vehicle that was driving west on Highway 24 near Peterson Road, and the driver gave him a ride. It’s not clear if they knew each other beforehand.

When they got to the Academy Boulevard area, Pate got aggressive, so the woman pulled over and tried to leave with her keys, according to a police report. Pate then assaulted the woman and pulled her back into the vehicle.

The woman then tried to escape again, and Pate tried to throw her into traffic, the police report says.

An ambulance was passing by when this happened, and a medic pulled over to intervene before being attacked by Pate, according to police.

Police arrived and arrested Pate on charges of kidnapping, robbery, and assault. His bonds total $100,000, and he’s also being held on parole holds.

Both of the victims suffered minor injuries.
