DNA disapproves claims about kidnapped boy

Police updated the public on a decades-old child abduction case out of Colorado Springs Wednesday.

On July 15, 1986, seven-month-old Christopher Abeyta was taken from his parents’ bedroom in the middle of the night. Police say foul play is suspected. Abeyta’s disappearance remains an active and open investigation.

In 2018, three men came forward claiming that they are Abeyta.

From August 22, 2018, to October 5, 2018, DNA samples were collected from the three men. On February 1, 2019, the Colorado Springs Police Department received the results for all three DNA samples, it was then determined that none of the men are Abeyta.

Back in August, KRDO talked to Abeyta’s sister about her thoughts on a man claiming to be her brother.

Abeyta’s case ramped up last year when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children released a new picture of what Abeyta might look like today.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to call the Colorado Springs Police Department at (719) 444-7000; or if you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers Tip Line at (719) 634-STOP (7867).
