Colorado Springs police cruiser crashes near S. Academy and Astrozon

Several people have called into KRDO with reports of a Colorado Springs police car crashed near S. Academy and Astrozon.

The accident happened around 6:30 p.m. Thursday as police were responding to a disturbance call reporting someone was breaking down a door with a hammer at a home.

Several officers responded to the situation, however, we’re told one officer was struck while headed to the scene. Police say that officer was turning on to Astrozon from Academy when a vehicle headed westbound hit the police cruiser.

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured during the crash. However, the police car and other vehicle were badly damaged and most likely totaled.

Police say the officer did have his lights on during the pursuit and the accident remains under investigation.
