Colorado Springs police arrest second man in child sexual abuse case

Police have arrested a second man in connection to multiple sex crimes against children that have taken place over the past three decades.

Charles Portis Jr. 46, is charged with accessory to a crime for both sexual assault on a child, position of trust and sexual exploitation of a child.

Arresting reports show police asked Portis is they knew why he was there. He responded because of “child pornography.”

This comes after police arrested 67-year-old Joseph Davis for sexual assault on a child.

The Colorado Springs Police Department was dispatched to the 900th block of East Fountain Boulevard on December 12, for a preliminary investigation. When they arrived at the scene, the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Crimes Against Children’s Unit was called with accusations that Davis had sexual contact with a juvenile victim.

Portis was arrested after the detective on the case looked at Davis’ visitor logs in jail. It’s at that time he went over their recorded conversations and found they had spoke about what police didn’t find during the initial search warrant.

The arresting affidavit lays out several spots, including a bookshelf that had several DVD’s and storage devices that included pictures.

After an investigation, detectives determined Davis was also sexually abusing other children inside the home. It’s abuse that stretched back to at least 35 years.

According to police, Davis lived near a local school, community center, and park that was frequently visited by juveniles.
