Vigil held to mark 6 years since Kelsie Schelling’s disappearance

Monday night marked the sixth anniversary of Kelsie Schelling’s disappearance, and while her body hasn’t been found, her boyfriend is awaiting trial on a murder charge.

Back in 2013, then 21-year-old Kelsie Schelling drove from Denver to Pueblo to meet with her boyfriend, Donthe Lucas.

Six years later, Kelsie’s family is still trying to figure out what exactly happened. Investigators believe she was pregnant at the time and is presumed dead.

Colby Schelling, Kelsie’s brother, said in a video, “We have to continue to work together to bring home this loved one who was carrying another loved one with them. And at the end of the day, that’s what you do for someone you love, a family member, or a friend that goes missing. “

To help keep Kelsie in their memory, a virtual vigil was held Monday night. The vigil, which was a 20-minute-long video, was packed with emotional tributes, and many never before seen family photos. Laura Saxton, Kelsie’s mother, says it’s the photos of Kelsie that keep her memory alive.

“[I remember] her eyes and her smile by looking at her picture but, I’m really frightened by the day when I can no longer hear her laugh or her voice,” said Laura.

Lucas pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder charge and is set to go to trial in April. The family says they presume their daughter is dead, but they hope to find her body and prosecute Lucas.
