Stolen puffer car leads to standoff in Southeast Colorado Springs
Two people were taken into custody after a standoff with Colorado Springs Police Wednesday afternoon.
It happened near Murray and Fountain at the Firefly Condominiums.
Police said the incident started Wednesday morning when a car that was left puffing was stolen.
Officers tried to pull the car over several times Wednesday but the suspects evaded police.
Eventually, the standoff started when the suspects wouldn’t come out of the condo.
It took SWAT presence and negotiators to coax the two people out.
“Here’s a very good example of something that could have gone terribly wrong. We have a lot of officers coming in here with red lights and sirens, we have a barricaded suspect and it all comes from someone leaving their motor vehicle running,” Lt. Howard Black with CSPD said.
The two people taken into custody from the scene haven’t been identified. Police did say one of the individuals is wanted on a felony warrant.

Not much information has been released at this time, however, police say the suspect is still inside the unit and are asking the public to avoid the area if at all possible.
They say many road closures are taking place between Sandalwood and Sandpiper. Tactical enforcement officers are now taking over the scene.
Lieutenant Black responded to the scene, saying they believe the incident happened with auto theft. He says he believes the car that was targetted was puffing.
