Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Warmer Weekend Ahead – 1/26/19

Today: The air will be chilly this morning, but we will end up a bit warmer this afternoon. Expect some clouds to filter the sun through the day with a generally light wind and possibly some intermittent, light snow showers over the ski resorts in the northern part of the state. High temperatures should reach the 40s for most areas in eastern Colorado, coolest where the snow is deepest. A few areas along the Arkansas River between about Pueblo and Canon City could reach the lower 50s today. Our local mountain areas should spend most of the afternoon in the 30s to near 40, but the high mountains and valleys will be much colder.

Tonight: Passing clouds and a generally light wind will allow the air to cool into the 20s for the plains with teens for our local mountain areas, but by morning a breeze may start to blow near the mountains and the air may begin to warm for some areas prior to sunrise.

Extended: Sunday will be a partly cloudy, warmer day with increasing wind for many areas. We expect the air to warm into the 50s to lower 60s for the plains of eastern Colorado, coolest again where there is snow on the ground, and our local mountain areas are likely to warm into the 40s. Late Sunday night into Monday morning the wind will pick up as another cold front surges south across the area. Snow will develop over the ski resorts late Sunday night and last into Monday with winter driving conditions becoming likely due to the combination of wind and snow. It is also possible that a quick burst of wind driven snow will race southward along and west of the I-25 corridor during the day on Monday. Although the quick moving nature of the cold front would likely limit total snowfall accumulations for the I-25 corridor on Monday, it is possible that the snow will fall heavily enough over a short period of time to reduce visibility, whiten roadways and cause several hours of slick travel over some areas. All areas will be windy and much colder on Monday with high temperatures only in the teens over our local mountain areas, mainly 20s to near 30 for the plains. The sky will clear and the air will get cold Monday night with low temperatures in the single digits above and below zero for most areas. The rest of the week looks dry with passing clouds, periods of wind and gradually warming air with high temperatures reaching the 40s for the plains by the latter half of the week.
