2 Colorado Springs jewelry stores robbed within hours

Colorado Springs police are looking into two robberies at jewelry stores that happened Friday in Colorado Springs.

The two stores, Moretti Jewelers off Constitution Ave. (MAP) and Jared off Woodmen Road (MAP), were both the scenes of heavy police presence Friday afternoon.

We spoke to someone who saw the robbery at Moretti Jewelers around noon; they said two suspects entered and one hit an employee in the head before grabbing a bunch of jewels and running off. Some of the jewels ended up falling to the floor as the suspect escaped.

Officers were then called to the Jared near Woodmen and Academy Blvd. a few hours after that, and witnesses told KRDO that a robbery had just occurred. Police say four black men were involved in that robbery. No one was injured during that robbery.

According to police, the suspects were armed with handguns and a hammer. In addition to the jewelry, they also reportedly stole customers’ wallets. They were last seen heading south on foot.

It’s not clear if the two robberies are connected at this time.

The victim in the robbery at Moretti Jewelers was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries, police said.
