Northern El Paso County drivers prepare for slushy Wednesday commute

Even though snow plows for El Paso County and CDOT have been hard at work since the storm started, things are not completely cleaned up in Monument.

Snow is still blanketing neighborhoods and side streets, even Highway 105 is leaving drivers with some troubles.

“Usually it’s kinda clear by now but I suppose with the storm last night it was probably a heavy toll on them,” Josie Axtman said.

While drivers said they knew the roads were going to be bad, they actually spent most of their day trying to get out of their driveway because of the blowing snow leaving snow drifts in front of their homes.

“We were pretty much stranded at home, I couldn’t get any of my cars out of the driveway for about half the day,” Matthew Logsdon said.

Now the focus is turning to Wednesday morning’s commute.

Raven Agape will be commuting to Denver.

“I will probably leave 15 minutes early probably not more than that it looks like they have the highway pretty clear,” Agape said.

With roads slushy and snow-packed in Monument, Len Denardis is preparing for a slower drive to work.

“Just allow some extra time because it’s probably going to be crazy if it’s slushy, you know,” Denardis said. “As it goes down below freezing it’s going to be kinda crazy in the morning so I think I’ll allow a little extra time.”

I-25 appears to be clear with no big issues on the road. Where the concern lies are on side roads.
