Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Slick Start For Many! – 1/12/19

Today: Slick roadways and a chilly breeze will greet travelers this morning thanks to recent precipitation and temperatures falling below freezing last night. Some roads are obviously snow packed, others that were wet for much of the day yesterday may be icy this morning. Be particularly mindful of bridges and overpasses as well as on and off ramps. Pockets of light snow will continue over the higher terrain surrounding Colorado Springs and Pueblo this morning, but outside of some light additional accumulations of snow near the mountains southwest of Pueblo we do not expect any significant, additional accumulations of snow today. Scattered, intermittent snow showers will be possible over and near the mountains through the afternoon even as the sun peeks out at times for other areas. The wind should decrease gradually this afternoon but we’ll remain chilly with high temperatures in the 30s to lower 40s for most areas, many of our mountain communities will remain in the 20s.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with light snow redeveloping over many areas. Where snow does fall accumulations should remain light with an inch or 2″ possible in spots, but there may be just enough snow with the chilly air to re-whiten area roadways making for some slick spots during the night. We expect low temperatures in the teens and 20s.

Extended: Light snow showers may continue into early Sunday morning before the storm moves far enough away for the snow to end for most areas. There may still be enough instability for a few flurries or light snow showers over and near the mountains into the afternoon even with a partly cloudy sky. We’ll remain cool on Sunday with high temperatures again only in the 30s to lower 40s for most areas. Expect dry conditions and a gradual warming trend next week with high temperatures eventually reaching the 40s and 50s for plains again. The clouds may be thick at times next week and some areas may be breezy at times. Late next week another storm looks to bring colder air and a chance for snow back to the area.
