Winter flexing its muscles as Monument is hit with snow storm

Winter flexed its muscles Friday as snow fell consistently throughout the day, making slick driving conditions around Southern Colorado.

Despite the warm start to the week, drivers we spoke to say they’re ready for the snow.

Quinton Turner said, “I expected the snow, we’re in Colorado and snow is what you get.” While Jud Lewis added, “It’s Colorado, you got to get used to it.”

Up in Monument, snow fell fast, creating slushy driving conditions throughout the day, but it isn’t the roads that drivers are most worried about. They are actually more worried about the visibility.

Cody Davis said, “You can’t really see but a few hundred feet in front of you and cars are slamming on their brakes left and right.” Cindy Padilla agreed with Davis saying, “Back towards Denver it’s almost whiteout.”

Tyler McAllister said his biggest concern is the other drivers.

“The most dangerous thing is the other drivers. A lot of people think that they can go fast and they can cut that but if everyone just goes slow and follows the rules it will be safer,” said McAllister.

As the snow falls, snow plows are out trying to make the morning commute as easy as possible, but with freezing temperatures and snow overnight, the morning commute could be even more challenging.
