GoFundMe refunding donations made to border wall campaign

The GoFundMe campaign that aimed to raise $1-billion for the Trump administration’s border wall is shutting down and giving to $20-million raised back to the contributors.

According to INSIDER, GoFundMe spokesman Bobby Whithorne said when the campaign was started, founder Brian Kolfage, a US veteran and Trump supporter, told donors that all donations would be used to pay for a border wall between the US and Mexico if the $1-billion goal was met.

That goal was not met, however.

“This means all donors will receive a refund,” Whithorne told INSIDER.

Kolfage updated the campaign’s GoFundMe page Friday with the announcement about refunds. He also introduced a new 501(c)(4) non-profit Florida Corporation named “We Build the Wall, Inc.”, according to INSIDER.

This is a place where donors can redirect their refunds if they still wish to provide money for the border wall.

According to Kolfage’s update, he reached out to several experts in “politics, national security, construction, and finance” to create a team that “has spent countless hours over the holidays reviewing all issues pertaining to the construction of a southern border wall.”

Kolfage wrote, “unanimously, we have all come to the conclusion that the federal government won’t be able to accept our donations anytime soon.”
