Suspect who fled police arrested after standoff in Pueblo West

The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect who was wanted after a shooting and police chase Wednesday was arrested early Thursday morning following a five-hour standoff in Pueblo West.

Simon Elijah Gurule had fled the scene in a stolen vehicle after an officer was hit by a car while investigating another stolen vehicle.

Pueblo police caught up with the other stolen vehicle and arrested an 18-year-old, but Gurule wasn’t found.

Wednesday night, investigators got a tip that Gurule was in a house in Pueblo West. Officers went to the house after 10:45 p.m., but nobody inside the home was cooperating. The Pueblo County SWAT team was called, and deputies were about to bust into the house with a search warrant when the Gurule and the other people inside surrendered at about 3:45 a.m.

Gurule was arrested for a parole violation, it’s not clear if other charges are pending.

The SUV then hit a curb at Norwood Ave. and 9th Street, and the suspects fled on foot. Officers were able to catch up with them after a short chase, and at least two firearms were found inside the vehicle.

The driver of the SUV was shot one time in the torso, Pueblo police said, and he was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was identified as Coda Hutton-Hayes, 18.

Another suspect in another vehicle related to the incident was identified as 21-year-old Simon Eugene Gurule, Jr. Police found him on Thursday and arrested him.

One of the officers suffered a leg injury after being hit by the vehicle. He was taken to the hospital, but his current condition isn’t known.

The two suspects were arrested; police haven’t yet said the total charges they’re facing. Their identities haven’t been released yet.
