Remains found near Aguilar IDed as missing Aurora woman

The Aurora Police Department identified the woman whose remains were found on Sunday near an abandoned truck stop outside of Aguilar.

According to APD, the remains were positively identified as LeBrea Jackson. Jackson was last seen in Aurora on Dec. 23.

At this point, there’s no threat to the public, according to APD, but no suspect has been publicly identified. The case is being investigated as a homicide by the Aurora Police Department.

Las Animas County District Attorney Henry Solano told us investigators had been looking into the connection between the missing person case and the body. Investigators believe the possible suspect dumped the body after fleeing south on Interstate 25.

“Huerfano and Las Animas [counties] have a lot of rural open space, a place that could be a good spot for disposal,” Solano said.

Solano said it’s likely the death is related to a domestic violence case.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigations, the Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office and Custer County Sheriff’s Office helped investigate. The case is now being handled by the Aurora Police Department. We reached out to APD, LACSO and CBI for information before Jackson’s identity was released, but didn’t receive a response.
