Gas leak closes Otero County Jail

The Otero County Sheriff’s Office closed its jail Saturday due to a gas leak on the outside of the building.

The sheriff’s office reports that gas did not enter the jail. Gas to the facility was turned off until repairs could be made.

Inmates are currently being housed in Bent and Pueblo counties until the gas can be turned back on.

Repairs are estimated to be completed Tuesday. The Sheriff’s Office will continue to provide services to the community while repairs are being made.
