Google Maps photo captures Richard Overton as he sits on front porch

Other than being the nation’s oldest World War II veteran, Richard Overton, was also known for his love of sitting on his East Austin front porch.

Thanks to Google Maps, Mr. Overton’s legacy on the front porch now lives on.

If you go to Google Maps and type in 2011 Hamilton Ave. and zoom in using the Street View, you can see Mr. Overton on his porch dated June 2018.

You can also get a small glance of his love for his country, with an American flag in the front yard, surrounded by signs of him being a “Proud WWII Veteran.”

It is not sure whether the picture was deliberate by Google or just a coincidence. But it is surely a memory the world will cherish after his passing earlier this month.

Overton died on Dec. 27, just a few days after he was released into a rehabilitation center after being hospitalized with pneumonia.

A funeral will be held for Overton on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 11 a.m. at Shoreline Church on Burnet Road in Austin, Texas. It is open to the public.
