Drivers deal with slick and snowy end to 2018

Tuesday’s weather is leaving Southern Colorado with a frigid and snowy end to 2018 and in the Pikes Peak Region roads are still causing a few issues on New Year’s Eve.

As Mother Nature is kissing 2018 goodbye with a kiss of white, the noisemakers are shovels, scraping the snow away, and the confetti is like salt to keep people from slipping on the ice.

Snow was light on and off throughout the day, leaving drivers battling a few issues.

“Some areas are bad, some areas are not so bad, the main roads are pretty good through,” Zachary Holland said.

“It was okay probably until we got to the north part of the city and then it got a little slippery,” Andy Briggs said.

“Now everything is starting to melt and it’s getting a little bit icy on the roads,” Drew Brown said.

In spots, snow was blowing across the road in El Paso County and Colorado Springs, and lines were difficult to see.

In other areas of the county, slush left behind in between lanes left icy spots as well.

“Even a big heavy truck was kind of swerving a little bit,” Briggs said.

But with the festivities planned for New Year’s Eve added with the slick conditions, drivers like Briggs are hoping people will be smart about making decisions on when to get behind the wheel.

“I hope, even as someone that works at the hospital, that everybody has a safe, happy new year and makes good decisions and gets a designated driver,” Briggs said.
