Beulah gets worst of New Year’s Eve snow storm

The city of Beulah may be under a winter weather advisory, but it’s just another Monday for the locals.

At times, Beulah faces flash flooding and fire dangers, but on Monday, mother nature threw a considerable amount of snow at the people who live nearby.

According to Stormtracker 13’s forecast, Beulah is expected to get five to 10 inches of snow. Some areas could even receive up to a foot of the white stuff.

Snow began to fall Monday morning around 6 or 7 a.m., and it didn’t take long for the snow to stick and cause problems on the roadways. Mixed with the strong winds, the snows create whiteout driving conditions.

The snow isn’t expected to let up in Beulah until Tuesday afternoon. However, people living nearby tell KRDO they are facing the heavy snowfall with smiles.

“It’s welcoming actually,” said Beulah resident Ben Lehrer. “We need all the moisture we can get. And it’s about time.”

“We’ve had drought conditions in the valley here recently these past couple of years,” said Philip Hedlund, whose mother lives in Beulah and was helping shovel the snow.

Hedlund has had to cancel his New Year’s Eve traditions this year because of the poor road conditions.

“I was going to go to town today and get the ingredients for my family’s oyster stew,” said Hedlund. “But I am going to have to table that.”

The first hours of 2019 could be cold ones for people all throughout Pueblo County let alone in the city of Beulah.

According to Stormtracker 13’s forecast, Beulah is expected to be around zero degrees, not including the windchill, while parts of Pueblo could be in the single digits.
