Weather Alert Day – 12/26/18

TODAY: We start the day with patchy freezing fog and areas of freezing drizzle (mainly east of I-25 and south of Highway 50). Rain and snow picks up in coverage as we head toward 3PM today, and you should also notice the wind picking up as well. This transitions to all snow this evening, with the heaviest being further south of Highway 50 and east of I-25. Strong wind gusts to 50 mph will create white out conditions in places over the plains. This is where winter storm warnings are in place through 11am tomorrow. A winter weather advisory is out for Pueblo county until that time.

TONIGHT: Heavy snow will continue out east, with scattered snow here locally. Winds continue to be strong which will allow snow to blow and drift where it is falling most heavily. A trace to 2″ is possible in most spots through the Pikes Peak Region, and thats what places through Pueblo will likely see as well. As you head south toward Beulah and Colorado City, 1-4″ looks possible, with a heavy band setting up over the plains. A widespread 4-7+” looks possible there. Some models are even putting out 12″ totals in areas. If this band of heavy snow shifts at all, the higher totals will go with it. Snow totals could vary widely because of that.

EXTENDED: Snow wraps up by the late morning for everyone on Thursday, before another round comes in Thursday night into Friday. We will keep you posted on this second event.
