Weather Alert Continues 12-26-18

TONIGHT: A cold front has brought strong north winds to the area along with some rain and snow. Rain will continue to change over to all snow as cold air filters into the region. Scattered light snow showers are likely through the evening in the Pikes Peak Region.

The Eastern Mountains and Valleys will also see some snow into the overnight. Heavy snow will continue south and east from Trinidad to Eads. Winds continue to be strong which will allow snow to blow and drift where it is falling most heavily, creating white out conditions. This is where a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect into tomorrow. As for accumulations, a trace to 2″ is possible in most spots through the Pikes Peak Region and through Pueblo. As you head south toward Beulah and Colorado City, 1-4″ looks possible. A swath of 3-6″ or more is possible near Trinidad to Lamar with Springfield likely in the highest category seeing closer to 4-8″. The track of this storm has been trending east which continues to bring the swatch of heavier snow farther east into Kansas. Snow totals could vary widely because of that so we’ll keep you ahead of any changes.

TOMORROW: Snow wraps up by the late morning for everyone with partly sunny skies. After starting in the teens and 20s, highs will only warm to the 20s and 30s with gusty winds ongoing. Clouds spread back in later in the day with a second storm arriving into Friday.

EXTENDED: A few snow showers are possible mainly over the higher terrain through Friday. In these areas we could see fluffy snow accumulations due to the cold nature of the storm. Highs will be brought down to the teens and 20s with lows in the single digits. Conditions stay cold into Saturday before warming some Sunday. Our next chance at snow comes on New Years Eve.
