Colorado teacher killed on I-70 on Christmas Eve leaves behind 4 children

The mother who was from Routt County and killed on Christmas Eve is being remembered by the many who knew and loved her.

Our partners at Denver7 report the crash killed Cheri Goodard, 62, from Frederick, and Sancy Shaw, 38, from Clark. It closed a good portion of I-70 in both directions between Genesee and Lookout Mountain from about 9 p.m. Monday until around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Investigators believe alcohol and marijuana use by Goodard played a role in the incident, causing Goodard’s vehicle to drift to the side of the road when she overcorrected. Goodard’s vehicle then went through the road’s median, forcing her to spin out and hit Shaw’s vehicle.

Shaw’s was reported to have been in the vehicle with her 6-year-old daughter, Charlee, who was airlifted to the hospital after the crash.

Shaw’s brother, Luke Florquist, told Denver7 his sister loved the adventure in everything around her.

“I think she remembered what it was like to be a kid,” Florquist said to Denver7. “So, she let kids be kids.”

Shaw taught Science at North Routt Community Charter School near Steamboat Springs and was loved by many around the community.

A prayer ceremony was held Wednesday morning by the pastor at the church in which her family attended, Anchor Way Church. An account was also set up at Yampa Valley Bank to help the family out during this time, including Charlee’s medical costs.

According to Denver7, a GoFundMe account is also expected to be set up in the next few hours. We will be sure to update you whenever this happens.
