El Paso County Sheriff Bill Elder announced Wednesday that the Pete Carey will be joining the team as the El Paso County Undersheriff.

Current Undersheriff, Joe Breister, submitted his retirement papers and stated that he will be leaving on March 29 after 31 years as a member of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

An excerpt from Breister’s retirement papers reads:

” It has been an amazing journey to this point one that I would not have traded for anything. In my case, my heart and mind are in agreement and it is the right time for me to retire. “

Carey said in a statement that he is humbled to be given the opportunity to join the best Sheriff’s Office in Colorado.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve our community and look forward to working with Sheriff Bill Elder and the men and women of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. Congratulations to Undersheriff Joe Breister on an extraordinary career.”
