Fatal mobile home fire caused by ‘smoking materials’

The Colorado Springs Fire Department says a mobile home fire last week that left one man dead was caused by smoking materials that weren’t properly discarded.

CSFD didn’t specify if it was a cigarette or a smoking pipe that was “carelessly” discarded.

The fire happened last Wednesday at a mobile home park on Western Drive. The victim still hasn’t been identified.

Fire investigators said in a release issued Monday that there were no functioning smoke alarms in the home.

The fire is still under investigation by the El Paso County Sheriffs Office and the Cimarron Hills Fire Department.
