Armed suspect in custody following barricaded situation near Westmeadow Peaks Apartments

People were left out of their homes for a short time in south Colorado Springs because a woman barricaded herself in her apartment Monday night.

The suspect, a female soldier, was taken into custody around 6:30 p.m. Monday, according to police. She was seen live-streaming the incident on Instagram. The stream shows an item on fire on the stove along with the woman ranting about religion.

Colorado Springs Police said, Lizette Rodriguez was hold up in an apartment at the Westmeadow Peaks Apartments and was suicidal.

Police said she was threatening to shoot anyone who came to her door.

Eventually, police had to use flash grenades to be able to take the woman out safely.

“We want to make sure we’re getting her every bit of assistance we possibly can,” Lt. Howard Black with CSPD said.

Rodriguez did broadcast live on Instagram while she was inside the apartment. During the livestream, she said she set a bible on fire, shows a weapon, and said she’s in the Army.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 has contacted Fort Carson to see if Rodriguez has any connections to the post.
