University of Colorado student dies after skiing crash

Authorities say a University of Colorado student has died after he crashed into a tree while skiing last week.

The Daily Camera reports 26-year-old Bill Brockmueller died Monday after he was taken off a ventilator.

The physics graduate student was skiing without a helmet at Eldora west of Boulder on Dec. 4. He was airlifted to a Boulder hospital in critical condition after his crash.

Brockmueller’s campus minister Emily Crider wrote in an online post that he sustained serious head, back and leg injuries. He was placed in a medically-induced coma while doctors tried to reduce brain swelling.

The Boulder County Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of Brockmueller’s death.
