Colorado Springs man leads police on pursuit, threatens with firearm

Colorado Springs police officers engaged in a pursuit with a man Thursday night, during the pursuit the man began waving a gun at them.

Police were called to the 3400 block of Afternoon Circle after a woman said her ex-husband threatened to kill her and her daughter and then kill himself. She also said he was armed with an AK47.

Upon arriving at the scene, they spotted 31-year-old Stephen Lakey in the parking lot. Officers attempted to stop Lakey but he refused to pull over. A pursuit then began after evidence was collected on the scene that supported the caller’s statement.

While officers were pursuing Lakey, he lifted a firearm up in a threatening manner. Officers feared he was going to fire at them. Shortly after, the suspect threw the firearm out the window and continued to drive away from officers.

An officer later observed Lakey driving toward their vehicle while they were stationary on a residential street. They contacted him and he complied with their commands.

Lakey is charged with multiple counts of felony menacing with a firearm.
