Man to serve 4 years in prison after luring in children, stopped by babysitter armed with crowbar

A man was ordered to serve four years in prison Wednesday after attempting to lure children into a car in Colorado Springs.

The incident happened on July 28, 2017, near a downtown RV park. Authorities say Garbacz exposed himself to three children who were playing outside in the front yard. He also allegedly invited one of them inside his car.

The little girl went on to let her babysitter know of the encounter who proceeded to come out of the house and throw a crowbar at Garbacz’s as he tried to flee. The crowbar smashed a window out in the process.

According to police, Michael John Garbacz, 47, was foiled by a babysitter who was armed with a crowbar. He pleads guilty to second-degree kidnapping in relation to the crime. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dismissed both indecent exposure and child enticement charges.

Reports show Garbacz has at least three prior felonies, the latest happening shortly after he was released from a Florida prison after serving four years for aggravated battery and assault.
