Fort Carson soldier killed after Afghanistan IED blast

The Department of Defense announced the death of Sgt. Jason Mitchell McClary, 24, who died Sunday, Dec. 2.

McClary who was from Export, Pennsylvania, sustained injuries from an improvised explosive device on Nov. 27, 2018, in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan. He died from the injuries in Landstuhl, Germany on Dec. 2.

Stripes.com reports, McClary is the fourth soldier to die from the bomb in central Afghanistan, raising the toll from the deadliest incident for U.S. troops in the country this year, according to the Pentagon.

The Pentagon identified the three US service members killed in Afghanistan last Wednesday.

The Taliban claimed credit for the attack and the incident is under investigation.

McClary was assigned to 1st Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado.
