Suspect arrested in early morning burglary in El Paso County

A man was arrested for burglary after eluding law enforcement in El Paso County early Friday morning.

Deputies responded to the 2800th block of S. Circle Drive around 6:18 a.m. to find the suspect, 28-year-old Joshua Johnson. Upon arrival, police say Johnson tried leaving the scene in a red Nissan truck.

According to a press release, Johnson forced entry into the residence of his ex-girlfriend and threatened her with a gun. The victim also revealed to police that Johnson had several firearms inside the truck he was driving.

Further information reveals Johnson was on parole and wanted on outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Around 7:07 a.m., deputies located Johnson’s truck parked at an apartment complex near North Nevada Avenue. Deputies began chasing after him, but he fled on foot towards a drainage tunnel near I-25, seen with a handgun in his waistband.

Crews were eventually able to locate Johnson around 9:54 a.m. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Criminal Just Center Jail for first-degree burglary, felony menacing, possession of a weapon by a previous officer, third degree assault, harassment, and other outstanding warrants.
