Manitou Springs man causes serious injuries to driver, caught driving under the influence

A Manitou Springs man was taken into custody Wednesday night for driving under the influence and crashing into another vehicle, causing serious injuries to the driver.

Gary Roth, 64, was traveling northbound in the 2200 block of Highway 115 when his pick-up truck ran into the rear of a Nissan Versa which was also traveling northbound. The collision caused the Nissan to go over a grassy median and across southbound lanes of traffic, causing traffic to shut down in both directions.

The driver of the Nissan suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

Roth was taken into custody for DUI and vehicular assault.

Police also made another arrest on the scene after an unrelated vehicle drove past police barricades but was stopped prior to entering the scene or striking any investigators. The driver was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested.
