Man arrested in El Paso County for two counts of attempted murder of a Peace Officer
A man is behind bars following a police pursuit in El Paso County around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday. Police believe he may have been under the influence at the time of the chase.
According to a press release, police began following Ramon Joseph Gomez, 32, following a traffic incident at the area of South Academy Boulevard and Bradley Road.
Police say Gomez then attempted to swerve into oncoming traffic, in the direction of two Peace Officers. Thankfully, the deputies were able to swerve away from Gomez, avoiding attempts at being hit at a high rate of speed.
There was only minor damage reported to either of the deputies’ cruisers. The chase ended with Gomez being stopped by a street sign near Cresta Loma and La Mar Place.
Gomez was taken into custody and further evidence shows he may have been under the influence of narcotics and was driving around with fake licenses plates.
He has currently been booked into the Criminal Justice Center jail on two counts of Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer, Second Degree Assault, and Vehicular Eluding – Substantial Risk of Death to Another.
