Last minute Thanksgiving meal shoppers pack Colorado Springs stores Wednesday
It’s one of the busiest grocery shopping days of the year, and people flooded the store to try and get all of the last minute items for their Thanksgiving meal.
“It’s our time, it’s our Super Bowl,” King Soopers store manager, Tom Salazar said.
Salazar manages the store on Briargate and Union and was making the rounds Wednesday afternoon checking on stock in the store for last minute items, like Erin Stevens.
“We had actually covered the list but of course, there were some things that weren’t told to me the first time, so now we’re back getting some more stuff,” Stevens said.
Aisle, after aisle, from the meat department to produce, it was busy in the store.
Linda Hayes was just trying to navigate it all to pick up last minute items for the extra people coming to her feast
“It’s crazy, isn’t it? The stores are really crazy. I was going to go to Costco, but I heard it was really packed,” Hayes said.
Of course, the cost is always a variable in holiday meal shopping.
Salazar estimates it will be about $80 to $100 to get a meal on the table for 10 people, depending what the cook buys.
“They buy a more expensive Turkey, that’s gonna make the cost go up, they buy a Kroger brand item, that’s going to make the cost go down.”
Stores will still be open Thanksgiving Day itself. The King Soopers on Briargate and Union will be open from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday.
