Fort Carson soldiers work around the clock preparing turkeys for Thanksgiving

Fort Carson is teaming up with the Salvation Army and preparing holiday meals for nearly 3,500 people.

Soldiers at the Mountain Post have been working around the clock for 72 hours to make sure the food is ready by Thanksgiving.

SSgt. Marc Scozzafava said, “Each shift is eight hours starting at midnight on Sunday.”

However, even with the long hours, soldiers at Fort Carson are saying it was well worth it.

“Especially when you go down to some of the locations and see who it is benefitting,” said Scozzafava.

Christian Lopez, a culinary specialist at Fort Carson, said he’s lucky to be on this side of it as a volunteer because as a kid, it was his family who needed help.

“I used to be one of the people back home who used to need turkeys, we used to need food growing up, so I’m kind of staying true to my mother as well because she’s back home and she’s still going through it,” said Lopez.

There will be four different serving sites on Thanksgiving, Manitou Springs, Fountain, Woodland Park and right here in Colorado Springs. Click HERE for location addresses.
