Pueblo teacher won’t face charges in porn texting controversy

Pueblo police said Friday that they won’t file charges against a Central High School teacher who sent a text message to students that contained a link to an adult website.

The teacher hasn’t been identified, and School District 60 said it is now conducting its own investigation after police finished theirs.

“We want to see if any policies were violated,” said district spokesman Dalton Sprouse. “It’s standard procedure.”

Police Capt. Kenny Rider called the incident “an honest mistake.”

“We’ve never seen anything like this before,” he said. “I think our phones and our computers automatically recognize websites now. But as far as like this situation, with a porn website, is very uncommon.”

According to District 60, the teacher “sent a message to students in their classroom via text message this morning regarding a homework assignment. Due to the content of the text message, the district has contacted police.”

We’re learning that the text message contained a link to a pornographic website because of a typo. The text message contained information about an assignment, but two sentences were juxtaposed with no spaces between the period, which created a web link. That web link just happened to link to a European adult website.

Rider said 75 students received the text but some were unable to connect to the porn website because some devices, such as Apple devices, don’t recognize the site and advances to the correct site with the homework assignment.

A group of around a dozen students gathered outside the school Friday after negative comments about the teacher on social media.
However, most students and parents said they believe the teacher made an honest mistake and shouldn’t be punished for it.

District 60 students do not have classes on Fridays.
