Speed limit reduced on 4 Colorado Springs roadways

As a way to implement traffic safety, speed limits on four roadways in Colorado Springs will be reduced by five miles per hour starting on Thursday and will continue to be reduced through the end of the month.

The following roadways will be affected:

· Academy Boulevard- Pikes Peak Avenue to Milton Proby Parkway: 50 mph to 45 mph

· Centennial Boulevard- North of Garden of the Gods Road: 40mph to 35 mph

· Flying W Ranch Road- Centennial Boulevard to 30th Street: 35mph to 30mph

· 21st Street- Lower Gold Camp Road to US 24 West: 40mph to 35mph

We spoke with Kathleen Krager, the division manager of traffic engineering who told us, “as we do speed studies around town we’re discovering that people typically are driving 10 mile over the speed limit where that used to be a consistent 5 miles per hour over the speed limit.”

Academy Boulevard’s speed has been raised as of Thursday, with the other streets to follow throughout the month.
